The Chapter serves the area known as "Newcomb" or "T'iis nideeshgiizh." Newcomb derived its name from early traders, whom established the trading post of this area in 1901. Residents also know Newcomb as T'iis nideeshgiizh, the Navajo name meaning "Cottonwood grove spreading (from wash)." This is displayed by the several rows of cottonwood trees planted by early farmers throughout the area.
The Chapter serves a total of 2,000 residents, whom
come from a proud tradition of farming, weaving, silversmithing, and raising livestock. The Newcomb Chapter conducts monthly meetings to keep residents informed and give them the opportunity to decide on issues concerning the chapter. The meetings also allow residents to have a forum to express their opinions to their appointed Navajo Nation Council Delegate and Chapter Officials.
